Gynaecomastia
Gynaecomastia is an excess of breast tissue in males. Surgery for
gynaecomastia can be combined with liposuction to the area. It is
designed to reduce the size of the breast area which can cause embarrassment
and lack of confidence. Our goal is to make your surgical experience
as easy and as comfortable as possible.
During your consultation you will be asked to point out exactly what
you would like to see improved. This will help your surgeon to understand
your expectations and determine whether they can realistically be
achieved.
Fortunately, significant complications from gynaecomastia are infrequent.
Every year many men have excess breast tissue removed, experience
no major problems and are delighted with the results. Anyone considering
surgery, however, should be aware of both the benefits and the risks.
Your surgeon will discuss these with you during your consultation.
Gynaecomastia is usually performed under a general anaesthetic by
one of our highly experienced plastic surgeons.
Following gynaecomastia surgery it is important to follow the instructions
given to you by your surgeon. As every patient recovers at different
rates it is important to listen to your body. In most cases patients
resume normal activities after 2 weeks.
The results of your gynaecomastia surgery may be dramatic or subtle
depending how you looked before surgery. Patients feel better in clothes,
especially polo T shirts. Patients who have previously been embarrassed
whilst on the beach or at a swimming pool often have renewed confidence.
