Lip
Enhancement
Lip augmentation
is performed to enhance the size of the lips. There are various methods
of increasing the size or shape of the lips. Some of the procedures
are temporary, such as injecting collagen. Other procedures allow
an implant to be put inside the lip and this is longer lasting, and
in some cases even permanent.
Examples
of lip implants include the use of Alloderm, a material made from
human skin. This is inserted through tiny incisions located inside
each corner of the mouth. The lips maintain their increased size for
over two years, making this an excellent treatment choice. If a person
prefers to use material from their own body, an old scar anywhere
on the body can be used to obtain material for the procedure. Goretex
and Softform are synthetic implants that can also be used with good
results.
It is
possible to remove fat from your body and inject it into your lips.
This is not permanent, but will last longer than collagen. This method
is suitable for anybody, especially those that are allergic to collagen.
There
are other ways to enhance the lips temporarily. Restylane, Perlane
and Artecoll are synthetic, injectable substances, similar to collagen.
The advantages with using these substances are that they last much
longer and are excellent in defining the lip edges thus giving an
enhanced appearance.
There
are many different options available and different methods create
slightly different effects and have differing benefits. During your
consultation the surgeon will discuss fully the various methods available,
and the advantages and disadvantages of each, in order to achieve
the desired result.
The surgeon
will be able to tell you when you can expect to see the final results
of your treatment, as this is dependent on which of the above procedures
is carried out. It is normal to experience some swelling and soreness,
but again when this subsides is dependant on the procedure carried
out.
